The Lung System

I spoke about the Lung element in October and want to bring to you some other information about the lung system. In this time of humanity seeming to lose its sanity, many people are feeling grief and sadness. In TCM, the lung represents these emotions that we often have accompanying physical symptoms of chest tightness or shortness of breath.

Tai Chi or Qi Gong are great exercises to help increase vitality and lung capacity. Many studies have been done on the benefits of both these “soft” martial arts. Both help to increase our physical and mental capacity, particularly as we age. These gentle forms of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance. Current research suggests a favorable effect on bone health for those practicing Tai Chi or Qigong, especially for post menopausal women.

We come to the end of the year reflecting on what we have accomplished in our work, home and life with friends and family. We are often sprinting to the end trying to accomplish all that has yet to be “done”. Let us take some time to rest and restore.

In the new year I will be starting up a small class to teach a style of qi gong that I have been practicing for over 10 years. Look out for the announcement!
