I hired Sharon to be my doula for the birth of my third child. The birth was a planned home birth on the East end of Long Island. Having given birth twice before I knew the importance of having a doula present at the birth to support me through the labor. Sharon was wonderful. Early in my labor when I just wanted to focus on relaxing, not necessarily moving things along, she did acupuncture on me which felt like a really nice break away from what was going on. I was concerned the labor would actually progres quicker than I wanted, I was worried my husband wouldn’t make it from the city in time. Sharon’s acupuncture helped to keep me in a relaxed state, rather than in a more active physical state, which would have progressed the labor more quickly. Once I knew my husband would make it in time I transitioned from relaxing to wanting to get things moving. We all moved to the backyard because it was a really beautiful day, and I walked around to help the baby move down. During my contractions Sharon was always there to help with counter pressure on my hips, or serve as a support for me to put my weight on will breathing and working through the contractions. Sharon’s demeanor was always calm and unworried, which was exactly the tone I wanted for my planned home birth. If I just wanted to be left alone she had no problem stepping away and as soon as I needed support she was there. When I eventually gave birth, in a birthing pool she was there to help with back pain while pushing and just also as a positive supportive energy. Out of all of my births, this most recent one, was definitely the calmest and most pleasant.Throughout the pregnancy she also sent me tips and advice on how to cope with some of the back pain I was experiencing and she checked in with me regularly. After the birth she also checked in to make sure the baby and I were doing well. She checked in about breastfeeding and did a final home visit about a week or two after the birth. During my birth, I had Sharon, my parents, my husband, the midwife and her assistant. In reality it was a lot of people in one environment, expected to get along and all support the birth process and Sharon fit in seamlessly with everyone. Everyone at the birth worked together cohesively in support of me. I felt very safe and cared for during my entire birthing experience. I have nothing but great things to say about Sharon and would definitely recommend her!
